The Clerk's Criminal Division Office maintains all criminal related Court records and carries out the following duties and responsibilities:
(1)
Process case file records in Adult and Juvenile Criminal
matters by acceptation files for District Justices and providing District Attorney with copies;
(2)
Collect bail; distribute refunds, and maintain all records with respect to bail deposits; maintain record of bail bond agencies;
(3)
Process and send appeals of cases to higher Courts;
(4)
Prepare certificates of cost according to law for Lehigh County Bureau of Collections;
(5)
Accept summary appeals from defendants and obtain file
records form District Justice;
(6)
Process for filing all Road Dockets;
(7)
Record/docket Administrative Court Orders;
(8)
Process District Justice Matters;
(9)
Process, issue and record all Private Detective licenses and bonds;
(10)
Process Forfeitures;
(11)
Process, issue and record all Constables and Deputy
Constables Bonds (appointed and elected);
(12)
Process, issue and record all Tax Collectors Bonds, oaths
and appointment (appointed and elected);
(13)
Process and record Expungement Orders;
(14)
Certify court records
(15)
Process and record other miscellaneous criminal motions and
petitions such as liquor and municipal maters, record
checks, etc.
In addition, clerk stenographers perform various Courtroom duties during Court sessions including swearing in witness and defendants, record in writing the Court's dictation of orders and other proceedings (guilty pleas, ARD, DUI, bail, Gagnon hearings, etc.). Upon completion of the Court proceedings, the stenographer immediately transcribes the dictation into the docket records and processes the file.
