LIBRARY SERVICES/POLICY
Basic services include reference, interlibrary loan and fax service, circulation privileges, and use of all library equipment, CD-ROM workstations, the Lehigh County Law Library Public Information System and all facilities.
Computer Resources:
The Law Library has six computer workstations for use by patrons. The library network allows users to access the many legal titles available on CD-ROM at each workstation. Internet access is available to cardholders through prior arrangement. Printing is 25 cents per page. Patrons may purchase print permits. See below for more information on print permits.
Interlibrary Loan Policy:
Interlibrary Loan Service is available during normal business hours. The pre-printed ILL request forms may be completed and given to library staff at any time. If you have a question or an unusual request, contact the Law Librarian between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M.
Fees for Interlibrary loans are set by the LENDING INSTITUTION, and CANNOT be determined in advance.
The Law Library does not charge its users for ILL service, however, most LENDING INSTITUTIONS charge SUBSTANTIAL FEES for both copies and loans of books. These costs are passed to the requesting patron, and payment is expected at delivery of material. Payment is to be in the form of a check made payable to the LENDING INSTITUTION. The payment is then forwarded to the lender.
Reference Services:
As many patrons are unfamiliar with the library, Library Information Services staff offers assistance to those patrons. Staff cannot offer patrons any kind of legal opinion. However, Library Information Services does provide reference assistance to patrons. An effort will be made to locate specific citations requested by a patron, and guidance will be given in the location of further information.
Once the appropriate information is located, it is the responsibility of the patron to read the material. The Library Information Services staff offers no advice or interpretation. If the patron desires more information than the library is able to provide, he/she is advised to obtain legal counsel.
Fax or Mail Document Delivery Service Policy:
Library Information Services staff will fax or mail specific legal material to any location for a nominal fee. This service is available at all times the library is open. To use the fax service you must provide a complete citation of the material requested. Staff cannot choose material to be faxed for patrons. Please have all citation information ready prior to calling the Law Library. Patrons may choose to have material copied and readied for pick up by their office messengers.

When requesting a Westlaw search, the patron must agree to pay for all connect and search time used. Please contact the Director for pricing information. The Patron must agree to pay even in the event of NO valid results. The Patron must supply the search strategy or citation. Print Permits
The Law Library has instituted a 25 cents per page charge for printing from the CD-ROM network.
Patrons with a professional library card may purchase a pre-paid Print Permit good for one year. The Print Permit will allow a patron to print a reasonable amount of material from the CD-ROM network and Microfilm machine during each visit.
Print charges from Westlaw searches are not included. Patrons must pay separately for Westlaw. Any material photocopied is not included on a print permit. This must be paid separately.
Patrons must collect their printed material at the circulation desk and either pay the 25 cents per page fee, or show their Library card with print permit. Print Permits are not transferable and must be purchased by individual cardholders. Print Permits must be presented when the material is collected.
Contact library staff for more information on print permits.
