Courthouse Security

The new Lehigh County courthouse is on the northeast corner of 5th and Hamilton Streets and may only be entered and exited from the Hamilton Street entrance. The old Lehigh County courthouse, which has two courtrooms, is situated on the northwest corner of 5th and Hamilton Streets with the main entrance on Hamilton Street.

Those entering either courthouse will be required to proceed through a metal detector under the supervision of Sheriff's deputies. Contraband items or illegal weapons will be confiscated and the carrier is subject to arrest.

Law enforcement officers are required to sign in with the deputies at the entrance and provide identification prior to entering. Citizens with a current license to carry a firearm are encouraged not to bring the firearm to the courthouse. If the firearm is brought along, it will be secured by the deputies at the entrance, stored in the Sheriff's office, and returned to the owner upon leaving the building.
